Fort King George State Historic Site will be the starting point for an overnight paddle trip to celebrate Earth Day April 22-23.

Rice, Riches and Redcoats; Overnight Paddle includes admission to four historic sites, beginning at Georgia’s first fort, King George, and concluding at Fort Frederica National Monument. Guests will paddle historic waterways, through old plantation rice canals, exploring the riches of those who profited from the coastal environment, and the foundations of colonization in America’s 13th colony.

The first day will cover eight miles from Darien to Hofwyl-Broadfield Plantation State Historic Site, with a stop at the historic Butler Island House. Paddlers will camp on Hofwyl’s grounds. Sunday, explorers will paddle 10 miles from Hofwyl to Frederica.

The trip is moderate difficulty, recommended for experienced paddlers, and not suitable for children younger than 12. Bring sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, water, snacks, camping gear. The $195 cost includes all meals.
