Join Outdoor Recreation on a leisurely paddle down a Coastal Georgia river from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. May 30. Lifeguards will be on trip.

Bring a lunch for a picnic on a sandbar or shaded area, and don’t forget your camera, bug screen and sun block. Beginners recommended to take a basic course at Holbrook Pond.

Youth under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Paddlers must be at least 12.

Register at Holbrook Outdoor Recreation Center/Equipment Checkout, 435-8205. The $20 per-person cost includes use of canoe or kayak.

Anniversary bowling

Marne Bowling Center is celebrating the 75thanniversary of Fort Stewart/Hunter with a deal during June. Monday-Friday, from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m., bowl for 75 cents per game. Price does not include shoe rental. For more information, call 767-4866.

 

Marne Trail fishing

Anglers are invited to compete for prizes May 30 in the third of four catch-and-release bass tournaments. Fishing begins about 6:30 a.m. Cash prizes awarded. Heaviest combined weight of up to five bass wins.

Fish from the bank or launch a boat (trolling motors only). Boat rentals available at Holbrook Equipment Center. Must have valid Georgia and FS/HAAF fishing permit, unless 15 or younger.

It is open to soldiers, family members, retirees, and civilians.

Okefenokee trip  

Explore the Okefenokee Swamp Park at Waycross with Leisure Travel on May 30. Register by May 18. The cost is $25 per person. Dinner and bowling

Families can take advantage of a discount on dinner and bowling May 31 from noon-8 p.m. at Stewart Bowling Center. For $30, your family of five gets two games per person, shoe rental, and dinner. For more information, call 767-4273.

 

Summer reading

The Summer Reading Program, for children ages 5-12, will be at George P. Hays Library from 1-3 p.m. Thursdays June 4-July 16. There’s no charge.

This year’s theme is “Reading to the Rhythm.” Stories focus on types of music, followed by musical-themed crafts.

Registration begins June 1. While supplies last, library bags will be given out at registration.

Whiskers and Bobbers

Kids ages 15 and under can reel in up to five catfish and have their catch cleaned during the free Whiskers and Bobbers Kids Fishing Day from 7-10 a.m. June 6 at Holbrook Pond.

Whiskers and Bobbers T-shirts are on sale for $8 each at Stewart Bowling Center and the Stewart Pass and Permit and Holbrook Outdoor Equipment Rental offices, where pre-registration is taking place.

The event is for children of military ID cardholders. Kids are encouraged to register by June 3 at either office or online through https://webtrac.mwr.army.mil. The T-shirt price increases to $10 on June 6.

A limited amount of bait and some fishing poles will be available on a first-come basis. Parents are welcome to accompany and assist their children, but will not fish.

Super Mega Bingo

Win up to $123K in cash during Super Mega Bingo from noon-1 a.m. June 6 at Stewart Bingo, adjacent to Club Stewart and Hunter Bingo, adjacent to Hunter Club. Register by May 25.

Minimum buy-in $100 and machine charge $225. Early birds, warm-ups, specials, intermission play and jackpots highlight the evening. Lightning Bingo from 1-3:30 p.m. Refreshments and buffet available.

All-Army qualifier

Represent the 3rd ID in the All-Army Ten-Miler in Washington, D.C., Oct. 11 by being one of the top three men and women finishers in the qualifier race on Donovan Field, starting at 6 a.m. June 6. There is no charge. Register from 5-5:45 a.m. at Donovan.

Wild Adventures trip

Experience the whirl of coasters, roar of a tiger, splash of water and rumble of drums June 6 at Wild Adventures Water and Theme Park in Valdosta. The park has eight heart-stopping coasters and lots of rides.

North Carolina weekend

Visit an native American village and museum while learning about the Trail of Tears during a weekend trip to Cherokee, North Carolina, June 12-14.

Other activities will include a night at Harrah’s Casino and a tour of the Biltmore Estate in Asheville. The cost is $600 for up to four people per room. Fee includes transportation and a two-night stay at the Cherokee Grand Hotel. Biltmore tour is additional.

Weightlifting challenge

Competition will be from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. June 13 at Johnson Fitness Center. The Deuce-and-a-Quarter Competition is a test of muscular strength and endurance. Wins will be based on number of reps performed.

Cost is $20 per person until June 12, then $25 per person. Awards will be given in first and second place bench press; first-third place in 225-pound press; and first-third place in 13 weight classes. Must be 18 or older to enter. T-shirts will be given to participants.

Movies under the stars

“Maleficent,” rated PG, is the next film in the Holbrook Movies Under the Stars series, at 8:30 p.m. on June 19.  

There’s no charge. Bring your own chairs or blankets. Popcorn and drinks will be sold.
