Holiday decorations will transform the Holbrook Pond Recreation Area off Highway 144 into a yuletide fun land from 6-8 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be there.

Hayrides will make a 20-min trip through the decorated trails around the pond.

A decorated boat will shuttle passengers across Holbrook Pond from the parking area. The FMWR Kiddie Train will delight youngsters, and patrons can watch holiday movies under the stars, roast marshmallows and make s’mores.

The cost is $5 per family or $1 per person. A concession stand will have hotdogs, funnel cakes, chips, cookies and drinks for sale.

Holbrook will remain decorated through Dec. 26 for families to drive through free from 6-8 p.m. to see the lights.

Holiday movie on Hunter 

“Donkey’s Christmas Shrektacular” will be the Holiday Movie Under the Stars from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Hunter's Hallstrom Lake.

While the PG-rated movie is showing, marshmallow roasting and s'more making will be going on around a fire. Guests can buy popcorn and hot chocolate. The movie is free. Don't forget your blankets and chairs.

Child care while you shop

Do you need time for holiday shopping without the kids? CYSS is offering care Saturday at both Fort Stewart and Hunter.

The care on Stewart will be at CDC, next to Marne Lanes (767-3202) and on Hunter at CDC, across from Hunter Lanes (315-6115). Hours are 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Brunch with Santa

Bring your family and friends to a Brunch with Santa at the Club Stewart from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday. Retirees and civilians also are invited.

Stations will serve a omelettes and bourbon glazed ham. The buffet will feature Southern breakfast items, beef Wellington, English cut cod and chef’s selections of side dishes.

There also will be a dessert and coffee bar.

Advance tickets cost $14.95 for adults and $6.45 for children. The price at the door will be $17.95 for adults and $7.45 for children. Children 4 and under are free.

Bowl with Santa

Marne Lanes invites you to bring your camera, bowl and have your picture taken with Santa from 3:30-6 p.m. Sunday. Children especially are welcome, and every child who comes to see Santa will get a gift. Kids bowl for $1 and $2.25 shoe rental.

Wildlife Photo Contest Extended

The entry deadline for the 2012 Wildlife Photo Contest for amateur photographers at Fort Stewart and Hunter has been extended.

Entries must be turned in to a Pass and Permit Office on Stewart or Hunter by Dec. 31. The entry fees are $5 per photo (ages 4-15) and $10 per photo (ages 16 and older).

Be there when the Boston Celtics play the Hawks in Atlanta Jan. 5.

Aerobic-thon and health fair

Improve your fitness at the Aerobic-Thon and Health Fair from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Jan. 12 at Newman Fitness Center.

The Aerobic-Thon samples a variety of aerobic classes taught by certified instructors. Styles include kick-boxing, step, zumba, line dancing, pilates and more. 

There will also be fitness assessments including body fat measurement, nutritional information, President’s Challenge registration, and health screenings.

Soldiers, retirees, family members and civilians are invited to the free event.

New Year's Eve at Club Stewart

Welcome 2013 with friends or someone special during the New Year's Eve Party at Club Stewart, 9 p.m.-3 a.m. Dec. 31.

The all-inclusive evening includes three rooms of entertainment (hip hop, old school and top 40) and hors d'oeurves, balloon drop, party hats and favors. A full bar will be available at additional cost.

Open to active duty, retirees and civilians 18 and older, tickets are $40 per person in advance or $50 at the door. For more information, call 368-2212.

Tow-2-Go will offer a safe option to get home, providing a confidential ride within 10 miles. It is free and available to both AAA members and others.

Taylors Creek driving range

Golfers now can fine-tune their swing at Taylors Creek Golf Course even if the pro shop is closed.

E-keys are now available for discounted packages on range balls that will save customers up to 30 percent off regular prices.

With these e-keys, you don't have to go to the pro shop for range balls. Just go to the range and use your e-key to dispense range balls from a machine.

Are you concerned your house will overflow with holiday guests? Army Lodging at Fort Stewart and Hunter can help. Both facilities have double and single rooms available.

All that is needed are a military ID card holder to reserve the room and a credit card to guarantee it.
