Spring Carnival, with its sights, sounds and fun for young and old, is coming to Fort Stewart’s Walker Field from March 31-April 3. The public is welcome.

The carnival will feature a variety of rides and games. Adding to the fun will be concessions, served up traditional carnival fare.

Hours are: 5-10 p.m. on March 31, 5-midnight April 1, noon-midnight on April 2 and 1-10 p.m. April 3.

Civilians should enter Fort Stewart at Gate 1 on General Screven Way. Pets, coolers, outside food and glass bottles are prohibited.

Pro shop renovation

The walls of the Golf Shop at Taylors Creek Golf Course are being stripped and painted, but the shop will remain open during the work, which is expected to last through much of March. During this time, the selection in the Pro Shop and snack area will be limited. For more information, call 912-767-2370.

 

Pre-K lotteries

Registration is open through April 6 for the free, Georgia-funded CYSS Pre-Kindergarten Program at child daycare centers on Fort Stewart and Hunter. The drawing will be April 7.

Students must be 4 on or before Sept. 1.

St. Patrick’s scramble

Start your St. Patrick’s Day celebration a wee early by playing in a two-person scramble at Taylors Creek Golf Course Saturday. Play begins at 9 a.m. Cart, greens fee, range balls and prizes cost $35 per person. Call 912-767-2370 to register.

 

Range shoot

A Long Range Shoot will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Red Cloud Range Complex. The opportunity is for soldiers, retirees, Army civilians and guests to zero rifles (registered at Fort Stewart).

Rifles of any caliber are permitted, but no pistols or shotguns. Targets at 100-500 meters (paper) and 750-1,000 meters (steel). Cost is $15 per two-hour block/person. Bring correct cash to range. Powerlifting

Squat, rest, repeat at the Rock Bench Press and Powerlifting Competition at Newman Fitness Center on Saturday.

T-shirts will be issued to each paying contestant. Open competition has male and female weight classes, with awards presented to top three bench press and power lifters. Lifters must be at least 16 to participate. Cost is $30 per contestant. Register by Saturday. Weigh-in is at 8:30 a.m. and the competition begins at 10. For more information, call 912-767-3031.

 

Bass tournament

The first of five catch-and-release Marne Trail Bass Tournaments will be at 6:30 a.m. March 19 at Glisson Mills Pond on Fort Stewart. Cash prizes are $250 for first-place (total weight, five-fish maximum) and $100 for the largest bass. Door prizes awarded after weigh-in at 11 a.m. Fee is $25 for soldiers, retirees and their family members and youth (15 and younger), and $35 for civilians. Other tournaments will be on April 23 at Metz Pond, May 21 at Pineview Lake, June 25 at Dogwood Pond and Sept. 24 at Metz Pond. Angler of the Year award of $400 will be awarded in September.

 

Golf clinic

Interested in golf, or need to brush up on the game? Join a Men and Women’s Golf Clinic at the Taylors Creek Golf Course driving range from 4-5 p.m. March 24. It costs $10 per person. For more information, call 912-767-2370.

 

Hunter Golf re-opening

Registration has begun for the Commander's Golf Scramble that is part of the Re-Grand Opening of Hunter Golf Course. The four-person scramble will begin at 9 a.m. on March 25. The $45 per-person cost covers lunch, cart and green fees, range balls and prizes. Registration closes March 23. For more information, call 912-315-9115.

 

Easter brunch

Celebrate Easter with brunch at Club Stewart with your friends and family. The public is welcome.

The menu will feature a carving station, side dishes and desserts. Serving from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 27.

Save $3 per adult and $1 per child by buying tickets through March 24 for $14.95 for adults and $6.45 for children ages 3-10. Children under 2 eat free. Prices go up March 25.

Parent/child golf

The Get Golf Ready program for parents and children is coming to Taylors Creek Golf Course on March 26 and April 30 from 1-2 p.m. PGA player John Fesperman will introduce the parent/child teams to the swing, course and game.
