Father’s Day BBQ

Celebrate dads at the Father’s Day BBQ Celebration at Thunder Run in Club Stewart from 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday.

Enjoy all the barbecue you can eat in a relaxed atmosphere. Breakfast items also will be served.

Thursday is the last day for advance tickets to save $3 off the adult price and $1 off children’s tickets. Prices at the door will be $15.95 for adults and $7.95 for children. Kids under 2 are free. For more information, call 767-4717.

 

Basketball clinic

A free basketball clinic for CYSS-registered youth will be from 9 a.m.-noon June 16-20 at the Youth Sports Fitness Center on Austin Road. The focus will be on dribbling, shooting, passing and defensive skills. Register by Monday at the sports center. For more information, call 767-5079.  

 

Volunteer at golf course

Join the volunteers who keep the clubhouse and grounds at Taylors Creek Golf Course in shape on Monday at 5:30 p.m.

There is lots of work for all who want to help. You’ll receive a gift for your support. Other volunteer nights are scheduled through October. For more information, call 767-2370. 

 

Babysitting course

Teens can become certified babysitters by completing the SKIES CYSSitter Teenage Babysitter Course from 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. June 19 and 20.

The free course will be at SKIES Unlimited on Davis Avenue. Participants must attend both days to be certified. Register at CYSS Parent Central Services. For additional information, call 767-2312/4831.

 

Run on flight line

Registration is under way for the Dirty Up Flight Line 5K/10K Run at Hunter. The run is open to all. It will start at 8 a.m. June 21.

All pre-registered runners will get T-shirts. Awards will be given to the top two winners in each age group.

After the run, there will be static displays of military aircraft, vendors, live music and more.

Register online at Active.com. The fee until June 19 is $30 each for DOD ID card holders and $35 each for the public. On the day of the race, the fee is $45 per person.

Junior golf camp

Hunter Golf Course will host a golf camp for youth (ages 7-13) from 8-9:30 a.m. June 23 and 24. Participants are asked to enroll by June 22.

The cost is $40 per person. The camp is to develop skills at all levels. It includes putting mechanics, approach shots, rules of and etiquette.

Players are encouraged to bring their own equipment. However, golf clubs will be provided for those who do not have their own.

Soldier Show

The 2014 Army Soldier Show, a live Broadway-style revue featuring the Army’s best talent, is coming to Stewart’s Newman Fitness Center on Saturday, June 28, and to Hunter’s Tominac Fitness Center on Monday, June 30.

Both performances are free and begin at 7 p.m. The theme for this year's production is "Stand Strong."

The public is welcome.

 

Volleyball clinic

A free volleyball clinic for CYSS-registered youth will be from 9 a.m.-noon June 23-27 at the Youth Sports Fitness Center on Austin Road. The clinic will focus on striking, blocking and serving. Registration continues until June 23.

'Ride 'n' Drive' on Stewart

Test drive your favorite GM vehicle and visit a variety of interactive displays from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. June 27 at the Newman Fitness Center parking lot. Win T-shirts and AAFES gift cards, just for taking a test drive. There’s no charge. GM is the host for the “Ride N Drive.”

Two-person best ball

Registration is under way for a 36-hole best ball golf tournament at Cherokee Rose Country Club on June 28 and at Taylors Creek Golf Course on June 29.

Two-person teams will be flighted after the first round. Divisions will include women a senior men's division for age 60 plus. Sign up at either course by 5 p.m. June 23.

The cost of $75 per player includes two days of 18-hole greens and cart fees, prizes, beverages and food.

Youth soccer

Registration continues through July 18 for youth fall soccer leagues at Hunter.

Play is open to boys and girls ages 4-11. Practice begins in August and play starts in late September at Hunter Youth Sports and Savannah YMCA fields. Teams are coed.

School registration

Register your school children for 2014-15 in Liberty County schools from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. July 23 at your specific school.

All schools will be ready to register military students, give information, create schedules and answer school-related questions.

Documentation needed: birth certificate, Social Security card, immunization records, medical screening, two proofs of residence and previous report card/school transcripts.
