Rotary Club donates to schools

Members and guests of the Rotary Club of Richmond Hill on April 10 received an update on Richmond Hill schools as all five principals attended to receive donations for their Principal’s Funds.
The funds allow principals to help individual students whose families cannot afford expenditure that is important to their children’s education such as reading glasses, books and equipment or joining school trips. The Rotary Club increased its usual annual donation this year as $500 was given to both elementary schools, the primary and middle schools, and $1,000 was given to Richmond Hill High School.
Each principal received their donation, said a few words of appreciation and explained why it was important to their schools.
Principals in attendance were Mary Anne Tiedemann, Richmond Hill Primary; Walt Barnes, Richmond Hill Elementary; Crystal Morales, Carver Elementary; William McGrth, Richmond Hill Middle; and Debi McNeal, Richmond Hill High School.
“When I set out our mission for this year in Rotary, we focused primarily on giving back to our own community. Rotarians in our club and the whole Richmond Hill community supported us and gave what they could to make our annual fundraiser this February the most successful ever,” club President Larry Barker said. “I want to thank everyone who participated and attended, and I am delighted that our Rotary Club can demonstrate that we are committed to giving back to you. This year, we have already committed nearly $10,000 to students in Richmond Hill through our J.D. Gardner and Mary Bean scholarships, and now our Principal’s Fund gives another $3,000 directly to Richmond Hill High School and the middle and elementary schools.
“We have also dedicated $5,000 to our Georgia Rotary Student Program and made various donations to help local people and causes including Senior Citizens, United Way and families in need. Internationally, we have given another $3,000 to help provide clean water for children in Haiti and made donations to Alzheimer’s research and the eradication of polio, which are international Rotary projects.”
