“Picasso for a Night” to benefit Hospice of Savannah  - Local artist Carol Hartley hosts this special event designed for those at any experience level, including beginners, to paint for a good cause. Work step-by-step to create a finished painting of a cross to donate to the Hospice of Savannah Art Show. Class will take place at St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church (16491 Hwy. 144) from 6-9 p.m. Cost is $15 per person, and includes all supplies. Pre-registration is required. Murder Mystery Night - The Continuing Education and Public Service Division of Georgia Southern University hosts an entertaining night of murder, mystery and mayhem. The evening will include open/cash bar cocktail reception, elegant dinner, and a chance to solve the mystery. Pre-registration is required. Event will take place at the Statesboro Holiday Inn (455 Commerce Drive, Statesboro) from 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. Cost is $32 per person or $60 per couple. Aug. 14

Drew J. Bradley American Idol fundraiser concert - Come out to J.F. Gregory Park for a free concert by American Idol hopeful, Drew J. Bradley. Local Christian rock band, King’s Cross, will open the show, which begins at 7 p.m. Attendees can choose to donate to Bradley’s travel fund, which will help to cover expenses for his trip to San Francisco for auditions.

First Baptist Church Richmond Hill’s Second Annual Family Picnic - Pack up the family and a picnic lunch and join fellow parishioners at The Barn (13926 Hwy. 144) beginning at 3 p.m. for swimming, a fishing tournament, water slides, games, and fireworks at dusk.
