The Pembroke Garden Club installed new officers during a ceremony April 17 with the help of Freddie Drexel Lee, J.D., who conducted the ceremony.
New officers are as follows: Diane Stewart, president; Jean Faught, first vice president; Angie Wilson, second vice president; Phyllis Covington, secretary; and Martha Arnold, treasurer.
Lee reminded the new officers and club members of just who they were and what the Pembroke Garden Club is about.
On June 19 the club will have been in existence 81 years. The women with the foresight and ability to initiate the Pembroke Garden Club were icons of their day. Those women included Mrs. J.O. Strickland, president; Mrs. H.H. Dukes, vice president; Mrs. W.K. Smith, secretary; and Mrs. L.R. Adams, treasurer.
The analogy of a ship’s voyage was used for the new term of office and the responsibilities associated therewith. Each new officer was challenged with the duties of her respective office and was presented with a corsage tied with a color representing the office.
Additionally, Lee challenged all members to uphold their responsibility to the club by supporting their new officers.
