Today, I’ll be your guide to “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel,” now on home video. You won’t even need a passport.

According to the film’s official website at foxsearchlight.com, the movie is about a group of British retirees who decide to retire to “less-expensive and seemingly exotic India.” They are “enticed by advertisements for the newly restored Marigold Hotel and bolstered with visions of a life of leisure.” However, when they arrive, the palace is not what they expected and is, in fact, run down. The film focuses on their reaction to and acceptance of their new surroundings and lives.

The film is based on the 2004 novel “These Foolish Things” by author Deborah Moggach.

The movie’s biggest asset is its cast. The film stars Judi Dench, Bill Nighy, Dev Patel, Tom Wilkinson, Maggie Smith and “Downton Abbey” actress Penelope Wilton. The actors genuinely are engaging.

The film goes from laughter to more serious drama, but balances them both. It might be a bit predictable, but it’s a rare, feel-good movie that makes you feel better for seeing it. That means … I’m a fan!
