In the book of John before Jesus was crucified he had been sent to Pilate, the Roman governor. This Pilate had the responsibility of either releasing Jesus or handing him over to be crucified. Jesus told Pilate that he had came into the world to testify to the truth and that everyone on the side of truth listens to him. At this Pilate asked this aged old question, "What is truth?"

Jesus had answered this question earlier in John 14 where he said, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." He was saying that he was the embodiment of truth and that a big part of this truth was the fact that the only way to establish a relationship with God the Father was through him. That means that you can’t get to God through any other religion, any other belief system or any other way period. The writer of acts supports this when he said," Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved." The Apostle Paul agrees with this when he said that there is but one faith.

The early Christians, including Jesus’ key disciples were persecuted and killed by the Roman authorities for the very reason of revealing this truth that there was no other acceptable way to get to heaven except through Jesus Christ. If they would have accepted the belief that there are many ways to God they would have been able to preach freely and would have avoided imprisonment and death at the hands of the authorities.

We as well have the responsibility to find out what is truth. The word of God teaches us that if we ask the answer will be given and that if we seek we will find and that if we knock the door of understanding will be opened to us. If you are struggling with this issue of truth, pick up the Bible and start reading it and then the truth will be revealed to you and this truth can set you free.
