What do we know about Jesus part 1

What do we know about Jesus? Some only know that he was the son of God, others that he died on a cross to save man.
Those are important things to know, but the Bible tells us much more about him — things all should know.
Christ is the “sustainer.” The words of Christ will sustain all men. When Jesus journeyed to Samaria, he stopped at Jacob’s well and met and talked to a Samaritan woman. This puzzled the woman, for the Jews of her day looked down on the Samaritan people. Jesus told her of the water of life that is for all men everywhere (John 4:4-35).
The color of a man’s skin or his station in life is not a factor when it comes to God’s word — it is for everyone (Romans 1: 16-17). The word of God is able to sustain because it is truth (John 8:32, 17:17).
All men today need to look into the words of Christ and come to understand the love God has for them and the way to come to God.
On one occasion, when several people turned away from the Lord, he asked his disciples if they also would leave him.
Peter said, “Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life” (John 6:68).
Isaiah told of one who “should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary” (Isaiah 50:4). To all men weary of sin and distress today, the word of God waits to sustain them — if men will only look to the word and obey what it says. The gospel of Christ must be obeyed by faith, repentance, confession of Christ as God’s son, baptism for the remission of sins and then to live faithfully by God’s word. The picture of the sustainer shows how Christ provides for man.
The words of Christ came from God the father. “I will raise them up a prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him” (Deuteronomy 18:18). It is God’s desire that all men be saved. Man must realize that apart from following God’s word, he cannot be saved.
Jesus told this during his earthly ministry: “Not every one that saith unto me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my father, which is in heaven” (Matthew 7:21). Man can know that Christ is the sustainer who waits to welcome all who will obey the will of his father.
Man also can know that Christ is the “submissive one.” Christ came to do the will of his father. He knew from the beginning what that will was, and he determined to carry it out. Jesus was different from all the other servants God sent to man. Moses, the leader of the Israelites, offered excuses as to why he should not be the messenger for God (Exodus 4:1, 10). He was assured by God that God would be with him, but he tried to avoid his mission.
Another one whom God sent out was Jonah. He did not want to perform the task given to him by God and tried to run from his responsibility. His desire to not obey God came from his desire that his people’s enemies not be saved. It took being swallowed by a great fish to change his mind.
Both Moses and Jonah had great tasks to perform, yet they rebelled against God. Christ was different from these men — he was submissive to God.
Look at his words concerning his mission for God: “For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me” (John 6:38). His mission led him through danger and even death, yet he obeyed the will of the father.
Finally, we see that Christ was submissive even unto death.  “And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross” (Philippians 2:8). He knew what his mission was, knew he would suffer pain and death, yet he was willing to submit to the father’s will.
Jesus set the example that all men need to follow. Obey God as he directs from his word. Have faith in Jesus, repent of sins, confess his name before men, submit to baptism and live faithfully the rest of your life. These are but a few things man can know about Christ, if he will just take the time to investigate the Bible.
