The relevance of God's word

The one prominent characteristic of the day is change. Over the past 100 years, so many things have come into existence, lived up their usefulness and are now considered obsolete.

Transportation — We have come from the horse and buggy to streamlined cars that can reach speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour. Scientist are working on cars totally driven by computers, some already able to exceed 55 miles an hour and change lanes in traffic.

Medicine — Great strides have been made in curing diseases once thought to be fatal. Some forms of cancer have high rate of survival; heart operations are almost routine to the medical profession.

Comfort — Where to begin? Take most buildings, rooms with carpet, soft furniture, temperature controlled automatically.

Man continues to improve on the things he has made. This idea is why some have trouble understanding how the Bible, written so long ago, can be relevant in our lives today. Let’s discuss, "the relevancy" of God’s Word.

Jesus said, "Heaven and Earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away" (Mark 13:31).

The Bible is relevant today because sin is still prevalent. The Bible defines sin in various ways; Sin — to miss the mark — Romans 3:23; it is also referred to as transgression — literally to step across God’s fixed boundaries 1 John 3:4; iniquity — that which is crooked or deviates from the standard Isaiah 59:1,2.

Sin is a reality that some do not want to acknowledge. Pick up the newspaper, listen to a news broadcast, or look outside your door. We find men killing one another, stealing, cheating, drinking, carousing and many other things. Sin exists.

Men try to ignore sins’ reality, especially if they are personally involved. God’s word teaches that sin brings about death. James 1:15

The Bible deals with the problem of sin. God does not try to explain away sinful acts, or to sugar coat the things men do to one another. His word says it is sin, and that sin will cost man his soul

God tells us that all men sin. Romans 3:23 As long as sin is prevalent, God’s word will be relevant. Man will be lost if he stays in sin. We must open God’s word with the thought of following and obeying, so that we will be prepared for eternity.

Believe in Jesus as God’s son, repent your sins, confess Christ before men, be baptized for the remission of your sins and live for God every day of your life. God’s word is relevant.
