Life of consistency

In the last few months we have seen the weather go from one extreme to another. For instance, last week we saw temperatures in the 80’s then at the beginning of this week we saw temperatures in the 30 at night and only in the low 60’s in the day and here it is at the end of the week with temperatures in the mid 80’s again. We do expect this kind of inconsistency with the weather in the springtime and we know that as summer approaches it will just be consistently hot.

The scripture tells us that our spiritual lives don’t have to follow this pattern of extremes when it comes to consistency. We are not perfect but God has promised us this ability to live godly lives. 2 Peter. chapter 1 says, "As we know Jesus better, His divine power gives us everything we need for living a godly life..." So we have no excuse for living inconsistent lives as Christians; our only reason would be that we have not taken advantage of the power God has made available to us.

Peter goes on to tell us the results of such a consistent life. He says that we will be able to get to know Christ better and that we will never fall and will receive a rich welcome into Christ’s eternal kingdom. One of the greatest tragedies is that our inconsistencies could easily cause others who are seeking God to get discouraged and lose hope.
