It matters to this one

There is a story written some time ago which tells of a person walking along the beach noticing starfish being washed ashore.

They realized that many of them would either be eaten by predators or baked in the sun if left on the beach.

They began to pick them up and throw them back into the ocean one at a time. Someone else notices this activity and approaches them with a statement such as this, "With so many of these starfish on this beach and you only able to save a few, what does it matter?"

The savior of these starfish picked up a starfish and threw it back into the ocean and said, "It matters to this one."

Recently I was in Florida on the beach and had the opportunity to experience first-hand the act of saving not only starfish but sand dollars as well.

I didn’t go there for that purpose but I noticed others picking up these live creatures of the sea and putting them in towels and buckets to take them home.

My wife and grandchildren joined me in picking up as many as we could and began throwing them back into the water. I immediately began to think of the previous story I had heard so many times and realized I was making a difference to those few we were saving.

Sometimes we look around our world and we see so many people with so many problems and we become overwhelmed at what to do.

Many just throw their hands up and say, "What’s the use, what can I do to meet so great a need?" We need to let God use us where we are and meet one need at a time, for it does matter to that individual.
