The other day I came out of my office after hearing a profound testimony concerning being fat. There were several ladies working in our backpack ministry outside my office and I wanted to share this new found truth with someone so I decided to do so.

I don’t know how wise it was, but I said to them, "You know, God wants us to be fat."

One of them said, "I think I am doing a pretty good job at that."

In order to get out of the hole I had dug, I quickly explained what I was getting at — the truth actually found in God’s word.

The letters in the word "fat" each stand for something. God wants us to be: Faithful, Available and Teachable.

The prophet Samuel told the children of Israel in 1 Samuel 12:24, "be sure to fear the Lord and serve Him faithfully with all your heart."

In Matthew 24:45-46, we are told to be found faithful when our master returns.

Then in 1 Corinthians 4:2 the word tells us that "it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful."

So, whatever the Lord tells us to do, we need to be faithful in it. If we are not faithful in the little things, he will not entrust us with bigger things.

The prophet Isaiah, in chapter 6 and verse 8, answered the Lord when he was looking for someone to be available, with, "Here I am, send me."

Whatever the Lord ask of us we need to be available. He ought to be able to trust us to say yes to any direction he leads us in.

If we are teachable it means we are willing to listen to instruction that will help us be better followers of Jesus Christ. We first must be willing to listen to the Holy Spirit.

Jesus said in John 14:26 that "the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all I have said to you."

We also must be willing to obey God’s word found in scripture. In Proverbs the word says to, "Apply your heart to instruction and your ear to words of knowledge."

The Lord cannot instruct someone who is not teachable.

So the big question is, "Are you FAT?" If not, if you are going to succeed as a Christian, you must change your ways.
