Don't judge a book by its cover

As I was traveling down the road the other day, the radio was on and I heard a commercial that caught my ear.

It was from an attorney’s office and was saying that each year there was this enormous number of mistakes made by the medical profession. They were encouraging people to call their office and they would hold them accountable.

What they were really saying is, "Call us and we’ll help you sue the pants off of them."

I know that there are very few doctors, nurses and other medical personnel that are just negligent in their jobs but I am convinced that most are dedicated servants in their profession.

The word that caught my attention in this commercial was the word, "mistake." I will admit I don’t understand everything about law, but I know personally I wouldn’t sue anyone it if couldn’t be proven that their action was through intentional negligence.

I would try to find out what was in their hearts rather than to judge them by some mistake; because after all every one of us are humans.

I am so glad that God doesn’t look at us from what appears on the outside, but the scripture says He looks at our hearts.

1 Samuel 16:7 says, "The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart." It’s easy in this world to judge people by what they say or by what they do without knowing the true intent of their heart.

The Lord knows that we are made from the dust of the earth and that with our greatest efforts we still will make mistakes.

He also knows who of us truly want to do right and please Him and who are just posers just trying to make a good appearance.

As we go through this life and interact with others, let us do our best to give people the benefit of the doubt, knowing that in the end there is one who can see inside the heart and will judge fairly.
