Don't be afraid to be carried
Pastor's corner

The other day, out of the corner of my eye, I saw someone get out of a vehicle and take a little girl out of a carseat.

The woman picked the child up and carried her across the parking lot into a store. For some reason, she was carrying her; maybe it was because the child was tired or too small to walk that distance or some other reason.

I was reminded that at one time all of us were dependent on someone else to carry us. There came a time when things changed and, at least physically, we could be independent.

There is, however, another reason why people, even adults, need to be carried and I’m not referring to the physical. Sometimes, emotionally or spiritually, we need someone else to care enough for us that they are there to lift us up. That means that we who are strong must be willing to be that kind of caregiver.

I think this is what the writer of Galatians is talking about in chapter 6, verse 2, when he writes to believers, "Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ."

There is none of us exempt from having a time in our own lives where we may need to be lifted up.

Remember when no one seems to be there for us or no one seems to care, Jesus is always there.
