Ms. Jerry Beard of Powder Springs announces the engagement of her daughter, Whitney Lane Varner, to Michael Trey Thrower, son of Brenda Thrower and the late Ralph Thrower of Opelika, Ala.

Ms. Varner is also the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Varner, Sr. of Powder Springs, and the granddaughter of Florencie Gill Bacon and the late Merrill Esca Bacon of Bryan County.

Ms. Varner graduated from Wheeler High School in 1995 and from the University of Georgia in 1999. She lives in Atlanta and is the director of marketing and public relations for Hardin Construction Company.

Mr. Thrower, who graduated from Auburn University in 2000, is a director at the Georgia Central Credit Union.

A fall wedding is planned in Savannah.

Deborah and Glynn Lovett of Swainsboro would like to announce the forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Kaci Lyn Lovett, to James Christopher Carter of Swainsboro. James is the son of David and Lisa Walker of Stillmore, Ga., and Curtis and Gloria Carter of Ellabell.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Bob Lovett, Linda Wilkerson and George Archer, all of Swainsboro.
The groom-elect is the grandson of the late W.H. Carter and Joy Winter and the late Mr. and Mrs. J.S. Williamson.
The wedding will take place Saturday, Nov. 13, at 4:30 p.m. at the home of the bride’s sister, Heather Peebles, in Swainsboro.
No local invitations sent. Family and friends are invited to attend.
The couple will reside in Swainsboro.
