The city of Pembroke’s recreation department will have a summer art camp in June and July.
Participants will learn art fundamentals while exploring drawing and painting with media such as oil, acrylic, watercolor, pencil, pastel and more. Local artists Carol Duggar and Carolyn Morgan will be the instructors.
Classes, designed for ages 12-adult, are from 10 a.m.-noon Mondays and Wednesdays. Cost to attend a four-week workshop is $75 plus supplies. A supply list will be provided at registration.

Davis family reunion
The James and Elizabeth Davis family reunion will be at noon Saturday at the Bryan Lodge 303 F&AM Masonic Hall, 33 Bass St. in Richmond Hill.

Kids Fishing Derby
The Richmond Hill Exchange Club will host its 24th annual Kids Fishing Derby from 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Richmond Hill Fish Hatchery on Highway 144, between the library and Kroger.
Registration will begin at 8 a.m. The derby is free and open to children ages 15 and under accompanied by a parents or adult guardian.
The derby will be at Fish Hatchery ponds that have been stocked with catfish. Participants should bring fishing poles equipped and ready to fish, as well as bait, although a limited amount of bait and fishing poles will be available for use free of charge. Hotdogs and Coke products will also be available at no charge for participants, courtesy of Roger Wood Meats and the Savannah Coca Cola Bottling Company.
Trophies for children 12 and under will be presented for several categories. All children will also be eligible for door prizes to be given away during the derby. Award presentations will follow the derby at noon.

New Beginnings Community Church will hold a fall-harvest celebration from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, at 75 Crosswinds Drive, at the entrance to Buckhead North.
Activities planned include hay rides, hot-dog roasting, face painting, games and prizes. All activities are free and open to the public.

Book signing set for Pembroke Public Library
J.G. Jakes, author of “The River’s Edge,” will have a book signing from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at the Pembroke Public Library.
When asked to sum up in one sentence what kind of story “The River’s Edge” is, Jakes said, “It’s an altogether human story: love and hatred, regret and forgiveness, faith and consequences and a cross.”
“The River’s Edge” is about an evil man, a horrible murder, a miscarriage of backwoods justice and a young woman’s vow of revenge.
Jakes was born and raised in Shellman. She now is a retired school teacher.  
“It is my genuine desire to share the grace of God and encourage others as they continue on their Christian journey,” Jakes said.

Fall art show, reception planned for Nov. 8
Arts on the Coast will have its fall art show and reception at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, on the grounds surrounding Leahy Art Gallery in Richmond Hill.
