So, you don't adult very well. Sadly, you can only get more adulty from here. Try these 3 easy adulting jump-starters every morning for help. - photo by Burkley Rudd
If I had a dime for every one of these moments in this meme, I could hire an adult to adult for me. Since I don't (and I'm broke besides), I, like the rest of you just have to adult the best I can. I find these 3 steps help, first thing in the morning, every day:

1. Make the bed

Mom might have actually been on to something about making the bed. Once the bed is made (1) climbing back in bed isn't an option; (2) the night of sleep feels "complete," like the day can officially begin; and (3) there's something extremely satisfying about seeing the bed neat and clean; plus, the sheets are cool and crisp for the next night. Making the bed just feels good and does a surprising amount of good for jump starting your day.

2. Get ready before you do anything else

It's really easy to wake up around 6:45 or 7 to start getting things done, but if I'm up and doing things while in my pajamas, the day is shot. I won't actually start getting productive until 1 o'clock in the afternoon. Take the time to shower, get dressed and eat breakfast; you will thank yourself later.

3. Work first, play second

A five-minute break from a chore or some other important task turns into an hour and a half in the blink of an eye. Few things can compare to the Chinese water torture of staying on task doing something horribly un-fun, but focus is crucial to adulting. Let play be the reward for finished work; work is so much harder to return to after play anyway.

Seriously, if adulting is to be our unavoidable lot in life, the least we can do is do it well. Even if we have to fake it to make it in the beginning, habits will set in; and, before you know it, you'll be as good at adulting as your parents are, if not better. Feel free to brag.
