Daniel Kiene, Richmond Hill High School’s band teacher and 2011 Teacher of the Year, was given Thursday the school system’s top honor as countywide Teacher of the Year.

The announcement was made during the Bryan County Board of Education’s regular meeting at Bryan County High School after Superintendent John Oliver recognized the system’s nine top teachers – one for each school.

“I am very honored and very excited,” Kiene said Friday. “When I got the school the Teacher of Year at the high school, I was very excited about that because there are so many great teachers here. And I’m just overwhelmed to have been selected as the system Teacher of the Year.”

Kiene couldn’t be at the meeting due to the RHHS band’s performance at Thursday’s football game against Johnson County, but he was commended for his dedication by colleagues and BoE officials.
