Political thought: we're all Americans

With the news all abuzz with information about the coming election it’s hard not to dwell on political thinking. While I’m fiercely against "blind" politics, siding with any political party or way of thinking simply because the people around you do, politics have always been a point of interest for me. At this stage in my life I don’t claim any true political allegiances and certainly have not decided which party best represents my views. In fact, the more I study politics the more I dislike the idea of party politics as a whole. I find it to be extremely petty if a politician is republican, democrat, independent, or anything else for that matter. What matters to me is the actual shirt, not the brand name on the tag. I believe that one should never simply vote for a candidate because he, or she, is of a certain party. Sadly after talking to some of my peers and others I’ve found that sometimes this is exactly what happens. Frankly, I don’t like all this "them and us" talk anyway. What does it matter if someone is a democrat or a republican? We’re all American.
