Students at Bryan County Elementary School recently learned how Greek culture and ideas have influenced the United States.
The students discovered that the United States and ancient Greece have several things in common, including architecture, democratic governments and a love for the Olympics.
In an activity, students learned about the Greek judicial system, which is similar to the U.S. system, by holding a mock trial and serving as Greek jury members. The children ate Greek foods, such as goat’s milk cheese and pita bread. They also had fun wearing togas, but most children said the traditional Greek garb wouldn’t be warm enough during winter months, even in Coastal Georgia.
