Garden Club offers scholarship

The Richmond Hill Garden Club’s 2016 scholarship of $1,000 is available to a qualified graduating senior at Richmond Hill High School. It is awarded annually.

The winner must enroll in a two-year or four-year college, university or technical college, in or out of Georgia, and be working toward an associate or bachelor’s degree. The winner must also plan to pursue a major in a field related to environmental concerns, plants or gardening. These include horticulture, floriculture, landscape design or architecture, environmental design, environmental horticulture, botany, biology, plant pathology/science, forestry, agronomy, environmental science, urban and rural planning, wildlife science, habitat or forest ecology, land management or other garden-related subjects such as nursery management or arboriculture.

Applicants for the scholarship will be judged on criteria ranging from  academics to activities and enthusiasm, and a 250-word essay. Applicants do not need to have any association with the club.

Interested students should contact Sandra Eckhart at the high school for details and help with completing the application. The deadline to apply is April 15.
