The Richmond Hill High School basketball teams held a youth camp at their gym during the first week of summer break. Over the two-day camp, participation rose to around 100 students.

“Over the two days, we introduce and try to help with skill development,” head girls’ basketball coach Sarah Jones said. “We do this through various drills and activities for the kids.”

Coaches and players for both of the varsity teams came together to help teach the future stars of Richmond Hill how to develop and grow in the sport.

“We had two sessions on both days,” Jones said. “We did a morning session with the K-4 athletes and then we held an evening session with the 5th-8th grade group.

“It was definitely two great days being able to work with our future Wildcats,” Jones said.

Coming off of a stellar track season in which she broke several school records and set many personal records of her own, the reigning Region 1-7A Defensive Player of the Year for girls’ basketball Mmekom Inyang was in attendance to help with the campers.

“This was my first year being able to come out and help run the youth basketball camp,” Inyang said. “I found it nostalgic coming to a youth camp and being a leader instead of a young camper in attendance.

“In a way, it was very rewarding. It was a fun experience for me,  and I am glad that I was able to be a part of it.”

Inyang is a rising senior on the basketball team and is poised to have yet another breakout season for the Lady ‘Cats this winter.
