Richmond Hill High School fell 17-14 in overtime to Allatoona on Friday night in the semifinals of the Georgia High School Association state Class AAAAAA playoffs.

The loss ended the best season in program history for the Wildcats, who finished 9-4.

The Wildcats led 14-7 going into the fourth quarter, and the sell-out crowd at Wildcat Stadium could sense a victory.

But it wasn’t meant to be, as Allatoona kicked a field goal in overtime to cap the victory.

Earlier in the day, Richmond Hill residents displayed their team spirit by wearing black and gold (the team’s colors) and showing signs of support throughout the community.

The Wildcats advanced to the semi-final playoff game with wins over Valdosta, Lanier and M.L. King, and was just one win away from the state title game in Atlanta this week.

Still, many took to social media after the game, expressing their gratitude to the team for its play in 2019, and looking forward to great things in 2020.
