Wildcats down Effingham County 14-0 in football opener

Richmond Hill blanked visiting Effingham County 14-0 in the Wildcats football season opener Friday night at Wildcat Stadium.

Zion Gilliard and Ravon Grant scored touchdowns for Richmond Hill, and Dontae Goodner led the defense with nine tackles, one tackle for a loss and two quarterback pressures.

After a scoreless first half, the Wildcats (1-0) scored touchdowns in the third and final quarter. Gillard finished with 57 yards on 21 carries while Grant had one carry for nine yards.

Quarterback Ty Goldrick completed 8 of 14 passes for 73 yards. Mason Wilcox caught three passes for 29 yards while Grant had three catches for 11 yards.

Defensively, Gabe Bauman added nine tackles. Aiden Styan punted five times for  43 yards and dropped two inside the Rebels’ 20-yard line. He also kicked an extra point. Blake Williams added an extra point and all three of his kickoffs were touchbacks.

Goodner was named the Plantation Hardware & Lumber Player of the Game. 

Richmond Hill plays at Ware County in another non-region matchup on Friday, Aug. 26.
