Richmond Hill's boys’ and girls’ basketball teams both concluded their season earlier than expected, but some of their players did receive regional honors for their play.

Four boys’ players and three girls’ players were recently honored by Region 6A.

Josh Mock, Alonzo Miller, Drew Nudo, and Maki Boone, along with Cullen McCormick, Bristol Machgan, and Faith Evans all gained honors.

Mock, a senior guard who averaged a team-high 12.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game, was a first-team selection.

Mock, who is still planning his future playing days, felt a sense of self worth for his efforts.

“When I heard that I was on the all-region, first-team, it meant everything to me,” said Mock. “I went from not being mentioned at all last year to first team all region and it just showed me that all of the work paid off.

“As of right now, I don’t have any offers to play at the next level and am still talking with various coaches trying to figure out what is the best fit for me.”

Miller, a junior forward who averaged 11.4 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks per game, and Nudo, a senior guard who averaged 12.2 points, 7 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 2.1 steals were both named to the second team.

Like Mock, Nudo knew his work ethic was acknowledged. He plans on pursuing a career as a HVAC technician.

“Being chosen for the all-region second team really means a lot to me,” said Nudo.”It shows all the hard work I put in this season to get better. I’m thankful for my coaches and teammates for helping me to get there.”

Boone, a junior forward who averaged 9.1 points and 4.8 rebounds, received second-team honors.

Boys’ head coach Bill Henderson was appreciative and also honored by the players’ accomplishments and their recognition for their play and effort by the opposing coaches in the region. His team finished 14-15 overall and was eliminated in the opening round of the state playoffs.

“When the other coaches in the region recognize your players, that says a lot about the impact these guys had night in and night out,” said Henderson. "I’m proud of them because they’re deserving of that recognition."

“They worked hard, they competed, and they represented our program the right way. They made a strong impact on our season, and I’m glad to see that acknowledged.”

McCormick, a senior forward who averaged 9.8 points and 9.2 rebounds, was a first-team choice. She relished the honor and the path that gained her the recognition.

“First-team, all-region really means a lot to me and a great end to my high school career,” said McCormick, who will continue her career at Georgia College State University.”

“I’m super grateful for the opportunity and for everyone who has supported me along the way,” McCormick continued. “My coaches, teammates, friends, and especially my family have all played a huge part in helping me get here. It’s something I’ve worked really hard for, so it feels really special to be recognized like this for the second season, especially in Region 1-6A where the competition is tough.”

Sophomore Bristol Machgan, who averaged 6.1 points and 4.1 rebounds and 2.0 assists, was a second-team choice, and senior Faith Evans, who averaged 4.9 points and 2.6 rebounds, was an honorable mention selection.

Girls’ head coach Sarah Jones was impressed with her trio’s steady efforts all season. The Lady Wildcats’ season concluded in the opening round of the regional playoffs, and they posted an overall 10-16 slate.

“I am super proud of their hard work this season,” said Jones. “All-Region recognition is a great honor because it’s how you measure up against other great players in the region.

“These three definitely deserve the awards they received.”
