The U12G Richmond Hill Hornets recreational soccer team completed a dominating season against local teams from Savannah, Hinesville and Effingham County and won both the local league championship and the District 6 championship.

The Hornets head to Columbus next weekend to compete against five other district champions and the top two district runners-up in the state rec. championship.

The Hornets won all their games, finishing local play with a 9-0 record for the spring season, outscoring the competition by 53 goals to 5. The Hornets have now completed a full year of play winning every game played against rec.-level teams, their last defeat coming in the state rec. championship last May. Coach David Kaye said, “last year’s state rec. championship was a big disappointment to us. We went there as defending champions and beat the eventual runners-up but lost to two weaker teams. Since then these girls have been playing wonderful soccer and we are very hopeful of victory this year.”

This will be the Hornets last tournament as a rec. team. In the fall they will play as a U13G select team. Tryouts for the team will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday June 8-9 at 6:30 p.m. at Devaul Henderson Park.
