The Richmond Hill High School track and field program had twenty-three athletes qualify for the state track meets this spring, and many of those athletes became state champions this weekend.
Howard University commit Mmekom Inyang capped off her senior year by placing in state in all of her events that she qualified to be in. Inyang placed third in shot put with a distance of 41-9.75. She would place fifth in the 100m hurdles, with a time of 14.35. She also placed fifth in the 300m hurdles, with a time of 44.87.
Newberry College basketball commit Jada Brown finished in sixth in the discus event with a distance of 120-2. She also finished in second in shot put, with a distance of 43-11.
The youngest athlete to place for state at Richmond Hill this year is freshman Chloe Miller. Miller competed in the 800m run and finished with a time of 2:17.30, which was enough for seventh place.
As a team, the boys’ track and field group were able to place third overall in the 6A state championship competition.
Senior Benjamin Hall finished off his high school career with a personal best record in the 3200m with a time of 9:25.24, which was good enough to place in eighth.
Senior Korben Johnson raced in seven races over the course of the weekend, and was able to become an all state athlete in all four of his events. He placed eighth in the 200m with a time of 22.46. He was a part of the 4x100 team that finished in second, with a time of 41.28. He was also part of the 4x200m that finished eighth with a time of 1:29.19. In the 100m, he finished in fourth place with a time of 10.72.
Senior Billy Cunningham became an all-state athlete for the second year in a row in the long jump, as he finished in eighth place with a distance of 21-6.75.
Sophomore Eddie Howell became an all-state athlete in the 800m, finishing in sixth place, with a time of 1:56.23.
Junior Kendrick Joshua would compete in the 300m hurdles and would finish in first place in that event with a time of 36.33. Joshua was also a part of the 4x100m relay team that finished in second place.
Walter Pugh finished in second place in the 4x100m relay race as well.
Kobe Mitchell was a part of the second place 4x100m relay finish, as well as being a part of the 4x200 eighth place finish.
