The eighth annual Sunbury 5K race/walk is set for 10 a.m. Oct. 7, at the Sunbury Crab Company. Race organizer Patrick Boyle puts on the annual event which benefits local Liberty County charities.

Boyle originally is from the Adirondacks area of upstate New York, but has lived in Sunbury for roughly 20 years. He has completed several 5Ks and said Sunbury offer a beautiful landscape for a family friendly race.

Since its inception the Sunbury 5K has drawn in hundreds of participants who either race or take their leisure stroll through the picturesque coastal town.

The route winds through the Villages of Sunbury, Fort Morris State Park and ends back at the Sunbury Crab Company.

The local eatery opens post-race for hungry runners.

The presenting Sponsor is Merritt & Grinstead, Attorney at Law. This year’s gold sponsors include Sunbury Crab Company, Darsey, Black & Associates, State Farm / Adam Herndon and Ankle & Foot Associates.
