Sports roundup: Wildcat hoopsters improve to 11-0

Richmond Hill High School improved to 11-0 after a 67-57 win over visiting Statesboro on Tuesday night.

The Wildcats, currently ranked No. 4 in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Class AAAAAA poll, are 3-0 in Region 2-AAAAAA and a game ahead of Statesboro, which is 3-1 in the region and 8-2 overall.

The Wildcats are led by senior Jaeden Marshall, who is averaging 15.5 points and 6.2 rebounds a game, junior Brayden Baker, who is scoring 11.8 points and pulling down 5 rebounds a game, and junior Leighton Finley, who is averaging 10.4 points and 8.1 rebounds per contest.

The girls are 8-2 overall and 2-1 in the region after falling 46-37 to the Blue Devils on Tuesday in the opener.

Richmond Hill travels to Bradwell Institute on Friday for a doubleheader beginning at 6 p.m.

Redskins in action

Bryan County High School’s boys basketball team plays host to Savannah Classical Academy at 5 p.m. today in a non-region game.

The Redskins are 3-5 this season. SCA is 0-1.

Both the Redskins and Lady Redskins play Friday at Portal in a Region 3-A doubleheader doubleheader beginning at 6 p.m. The Lady Redskins are off to a 3-8 start overall.

Wrestling rankings

Richmond Hill High School is all over the top 5 in individual wrestling rankings in Class AAAAAA,according to RankWrestlers.com.

Here’s a list: Sophomore Colin Dragon is ranked No. 3 at 106 pounds with a 19-3 record.

Sophomore Hunter Cash is ranked No. 5 at 113 pounds with a 13-5 record.

Senior Zachariah Mcquillian (16-3) is No. 3 at 145 pounds; Senior Brandon Langley (19-3) is No. 5 in the 152 pound category; senior Anthony Taylor (18-2) is No. 5 at 160 pounds; seniors Kamdyn Munro (10-0) and Tate Evans (24-2) are No. 1 and 2, respectively, at 170 pounds; senior Dylan Tucker (21-3) is No. 4 at 182 pounds; and senior Jose Fusile is ranked No. 1 in the heavyweight class.

Dual wrestling tournaments for the region begin Jan. 15. The state team dual wrestling tournament begins Jan. 22, and the championship will be held Jan. 30 at Lassiter High School.

Football All-Region team:

Bryan County High School senior defensive end Chris Bell was named first-team All-Region 3-A by gapreps.com. Freshman Tanner Ennis, a defensive back, was named second-team All Region by the same website.
