Hendrix Park

Young athletes flocked to Hendrix Park on Saturday for Girls Softball Rama which signals the beginning of the area’s recreation softball season.

In the 8 and under girls mini softball, the Wild Thangz, coached by Dorothy Rountree and Charles Williams, beat the Dixie Chicks, coached by Dennis Seger, Bubba Banks and Richie Edwards, 12-4. For the Wild Thangz, Ashley Nelson went 3 for 3 with a home run, Jamie Carter went 3 for 3 with a triple. Katelyn Stephens and Alyshia Jones also went 3 for 3. Going 2 for 3 were DeLanee McFarland, Alayna Williams, MyKayla Jones, Ally Butler and Sarah Coursey. Amy Rountree went one for three. On the Dixie Chicks side, Logan Seger was 2 for 2. Madison Banks, Alyssa Edwards, MaKayla Lee, Brooke Barfield, Kimberly Estes, Courtnie Bacon and Jailyn Morgan all went 1 for 2. The Wild Thangz had a total of 23 hits with 13 strikeouts. The Dixie Chicks had 9 hits with 15 strikeouts.

In the mite girls 10 and under softball, the Lady Bulldawgs, coached by Cassie Beam, Holly Edwards and Katie Walker, beat Pooler 19-11.

Also in the mite division, the Angels, coached by Gary Walker, Todd Godwin and Ronnie Boyd, beat Bloomingdale 12-1. Josey Denmark went 3 for 3 with 3 runs scored, 5 RBI’s and 2 home runs. Alana Walker went 3 for 3 with 2 runs, 4 RBI’s and 2 home runs. Anna Tadlock went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBI’s. Sami Boyd hit a home run.

In the next game, the Angels beat Garden City 16-0. For the Angels, Josey Denmark went 4 for 4 with 3 runs scored, 5 RBI’s and a home run. Alana Walker went 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored, 1 triple, a home run and 3 RBI’s. Anna Tadlock went 3 for 4 with 1 run scored and a RBI. Chesney McFarland hit a home run.

Baseball camp

The second annual BCHS Redskin Baseball Camp will be conducted Saturday from 9-11:30 a.m. at Hendrix Park. Sign-up starts at 8 a.m. for the one day event. Camp cost is $20 per child and is open to both boys and girls ages 6 and up. The BCHS Varsity Redskin Baseball team will be instructing the campers on the basic fundamentals of hitting, catching, throwing, and baserunning.
