RHMS softball

The Richmond Hill Middle School Lady Cats softball team won their season opener Tuesday August 28 with a 5-0 shutout over Langston Chapel Middle School at Mill Creek Park in Statesboro. The game was called in the top of the fifth inning due to lightning from an approaching thunderstorm.

Starting pitcher Lauren Simerly was dominant in the contest, pitching a no-hitter. All 12 outs Simerly recorded were via strikeout. Only two Langston Chapel batters reached base, both by walks in the fourth inning.

The Lady Cats jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, added one in the third, and capped the scoring with two runs in the fourth inning on RBI singles by first baseman Trisha Jennings and right fielder Sophia Lorimer.
