Two incredibly frustrating losses were suffered by both the boys and girls RHHS soccer teams in region play on Tuesday. The boys lost 2-1 to BC in overtime, and the girls lost 2-1 to St. Vincent’s in double overtime.
The boys’ single goal was scored by Nic Harris with an assist from Mitch Doud.
“This is one of the most disappointing losses in my career,” said Coach Wade Wright. “A lot of people were angry with the officiating but you cannot blame a game on the officials when your team misses six one on ones with the keeper. At some point we as a team are going to have to make a big play. Right now, we are going to keep moving forward, work hard on every aspect of the game and get ready for the region playoffs.”
In the girls game, St. Vincent’s controlled most of the pace of play, except for good passing by the Cats. Coach Steve Kollman commented that SVA simply had better speed. Laura Nunnery scored the lone goal, and Sarah Parker had 17 saves.
Rematches are coming up Tuesday with the boys versus BC and the girls versus St. Vincent’s, this time on Wildcat Field.
