The city of Richmond Hill has a new semi-pro football program in town—the Richmond Hill Broncos. The Broncos look to have a competitive season in their new location.

“We felt like the opportunity was much better here for us,” co-owner Dylan Peterson said. “We felt like the fields were much better here, and the opportunity for sponsorships was better as well.”

Peterson is not only one of the owners, but also a former player on the team--currently out with an unfortunate injury. Ownership is shared with David Burch, Gerrick Smith and David Hogan.

“We have had a team for three years now,” Peterson said. “We were located in Savannah, but hope to build something special here in Richmond Hill for the community.”

The Broncos opened their season against the Outlaws, who are based in Effingham, on February 24. Although the Broncos dropped that game, they would come back and win their week two contest by three touchdowns.

“The team is filled with superstars,” Peterson said. “We have really good players on both sides of the ball. We compete as a family and that is our motto.”

With the family mantra being a big part of what the Broncos want to build, it’s no surprise that their vision aligns with that.

“We want to give these young men the opportunity to go to the next level,” Peterson said. “It is our hope that they get a better life for themselves and their families. We also want the older guys on the team to get the chance to play at a high level in the game of football.”

The Broncos currently sit at 1-2 on the year, but hope to get back to .500 in their next game against the Bulls, who also sit at 1-2 on the year.

Next up, the Broncos will host the Bulls of Central Florida on March 30. The game will be held at 303 Armadale Rd in Port Wentworth. Admission is $10. $5 with military ID and kids 12 and under are free. Free concessions are available. Kickoff is at 6 p.m.
