SEB sweeps Bryan County

BROOKLET - The Southeast Bulloch Yellow Jackets played host to Bryan County this past Tuesday night as the Redskins girls and boys basketball teams took to the court, both looking to earn their first victory of the season.

The Lady Skins marched onto the hardwood for their six o’clock tipoff, but came up short once again as the Lady Yellow Jackets grabbed a 48-27 victory in front of a sparse crowd. Nine Lady Skins got in on the scoring action as they continue to show determination and desire, but fundamental inconsistencies seemed to keep them out of the win column again during this midweek contest.

The varsity Redskin boys squad took the court next and put forth another hustling effort before coming away without that first win. Improved shot selection and execution of plays had Bryan County within nine points of SEB at intermission before the Jackets pulled away for a 63-50 victory.

Every available player saw some playing time which will only help the Redskins down the stretch with some of the younger players gaining valuable experience.

Winston Johnson once again led in scoring with 17 points, and Ivey Mutcherson (13 points) and Therman Gaines (10 points) helped Johnson shoulder the load as this threesome scored 40 of the Redskins’ 50 points.

Bryan County missed some great scoring opportunites on open shots, but, on this night, the ole roundball just didn’t bounce the Redskins’ way when they needed it most against a solid Yellow Jacket squad. Bryan County hosted Portal on Friday, but results were not available as of press time. They play again today at South Effingham, 6 p.m. tip off.
