RHRA baseball/softball All Star Sunday a huge success

The Richmond Hill Recreation Association held their first Baseball / Softball All Star Sunday on May 4, 2008. It was a huge success.

The idea of All Star Sunday was brought to the RHRA by Lou Gambill, owner of My Grandfather’s Place and coach of the 9/10 Orioles and the 13/15 Orioles. He thought it would be a fun way to recognize all of the players that were nominated for the All Star teams. Coaches nominated players for post season All Star play in the same way they have done in previous years. Players were then placed on teams for a fun scrimmage game on Sunday. Approximately 225 players participated in the games.

The opening ceremonies included the posting of colors by the Richmond Hill High School JROTC Color Guard, singing of the National Anthem by Kaelyn McGill, and the first pitch thrown out by Phil Jones, Bryan County Administrator.

A Home Run Derby for each age division was also added to the day’s events. The winners received a trophy and a prize. There were 88 participants in the Home Run Derby. The winners were:

Girls: 7/8 - Lyndsey Boone

9/10 - Kathryn Carter

11/12 - Tiffany Massey

Boys: 7/8 - Lance Longgrear

9/10 - Michael Prellwitz

11/12 - Blake Wilson

13/14 - Ryan Esenwein
