Richmond Hill High School’s killer baseball schedule is suddenly looking a little less daunting, after the Wildcats (3-4) picked up back-to-back wins over two traditional state powerhouses.
Richmond Hill knocked off No. 2-ranked South Effingham 4-1 in Guyton on Wednesday behind the pitching of Randy Giles, Brian Strahan and Peyton Carter and the hitting of Cody Taylor.
Giles held the Mustangs (6-1) scoreless through the first four innings while Carter got the Wildcats out of a jam in the sixth, then shut down South Effingham in the seventh to earn the save.
Taylor had three of the Wildcats’ four hits.
“Pitching and defense again did their job,” RHHS coach Stacy Bennett said. “Anytime we can go out and play loose with confidence and discipline we give ourselves a chance to win.”
