RHATA wraps up team tennis league
RH-tennis
The Richmond Hill Area Tennis Association’s (RHATA) newest program in 2007, 2-ON-2 team tennis league, recently completed. Eight junior teams, sixteen tennis players in all, participated in this league during the summer. The 2-ON-2 tennis league offers young players ages 8-18 the opportunity to play on teams in a league that emphasizes fun, fitness, friends, and success. The league matches players of similar age and ability using the Junior National Tennis Rating Program. Based on the ages of the participants, RHATA was able to form a U14 division for this first season. "The league allows players to get involved in a healthy, active sport," said junior program coordinator Enny Ames. "They tend to stay involved, because they’re part of a team. As a result, they learn more than tennis; they learn the importance of teamwork, sportsmanship, and social interaction while having fun with their friends at the same time. In tennis terminology, that’s known as a ‘perfect match.’" Winners were based on the most games won. The order of finish from this initial boys season is as follows: Daniel Ames and Tradd Stephens, Trey Collins and Grey Davis, Tyler Wise and Thomas Capocasale, Welton Li and Andy Balas. The order of finish from the girls is as follows: Emily Li and Rachel Greminger, Ansley Davis and Katrice Blaine, Alexandra Thompson and Sheena Naik, Sarah Campbell and Alexandria Wells. On Friday, Aug. 3, the group wrapped up the season with a pizza party that included fun with the ball machine, games, and a presentation of awards to the winners. Ames said the Richmond Hill Area Tennis Association "would like to thank all the players, parents, and volunteers for all their work and support. Without all their help, this would not be possible."
