With her experience on the court and her commitment to the classroom, McCormick was able to pull in her first offer to continue her athletic and academic career after high school next May.
“I have spent the summer focusing on recruiting- contacting coaches, attending camps and visiting schools,” McCormick said. “Oglethorpe and I began communicating based on game tape and I was invited for a visit. The coaches made me feel very welcome and the facilities were really cool. Oglethorpe’s court is called ‘The Blacktop’ because the playing area is painted completely black, and I liked the uniqueness of it.”
Her first offer is testament to the hard work she has put in on the hardwood.
“It means a lot to get an offer,” McCormick said. “It has been a goal of mine for a very long time. It feels great to know all of my work and focus are paying off.”
As she heads into her senior year, McCormick knows what she wants to do in college, and even after her basketball career comes to a close.
“My goal after basketball is to become a physical or occupational therapist,” McCormick said.
While she is open to playing at any level of basketball after high school, McCormick has her eyes set on which divisions she would most like to play in.
“I am hoping to find a D2 or D3 school where I can pursue my major and get four more years of great basketball,” McCormick said. “In addition to a competitive team, I like the mid to smaller schools and small class sizes. There really are a lot of options out there. It is just about finding the best fit for me on the court and in the classroom.
“I have several camps coming up over the next month and the season will be starting soon. I am trying to just take it all in and enjoy the process. At times the recruiting process can be overwhelming, but it has been fun talking to coaches, learning about other programs, and visiting schools. Coach Jones has also been very supportive and I am so excited for the opportunities.”
As she heads into her final season with the Lady Wildcats, she has her work cut out for her, knowing that both she and Emari Brown will have to step up and lead a young team.
“Emari and I will have a big role as seniors this year leading and mentoring a young team but we are ready for the challenge,” McCormick said. “I cannot wait to kick off the season in our brand new facilities.”
