Anticipating up to 20,000 users each year, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division reopened the Ocmulgee Public Fishing Area, giving boaters and anglers great access to a celebrated fishing location. The area, closed since fall 2012 due to a problem with a compromised lake bed, now has returned within three feet of full pool, and the re-stocked fish populations are responding well to the environment. "In anticipation of the opening, we sampled the fish population on the lake in early October," says John Biagi, Chief of the WRD Fisheries Management Section.
