Ogeechee-Canoochee Riverkeeper Inc. has announced a Saturday morning, Sept. 28 member paddle along the river, beginning at 9 a.m.

Participants will start at Morgan’s Bridge, a popular hangout for those who love the river. The river will swell and shrink as they work their way downstream, finally ending at the Savannah/Ogeechee Canal, a historic park that connects the two rivers.

Connie Shreve, the manager of Ogeechee Outpost and the S/O Canal will be on hand to give a history lesson on the canal and its importance to the local economy around the turn of the century.

If rentals are needed, Ogeechee Outpost will be the outfitter on this trip, renting kayaks for $30 and canoes for $40 per vessel. If you're bringing your own boat, they will drop them at the boat ramp at 9 and shuttle vehicles to the canal.

There is a $6 take out fee at the canal. Cash or check only.

River levels are low in the upper portions of this paddle. Be prepared to exit your boat to portage through shallow areas or over logs.
