Ellabell, GA – The Bryan County Redskins softball team wasted no time as they dominated the Claxton Tigers 19-4 on Wednesday at Hendrix Park in their Region 3-1A contest.
It only took three innings for the Redskins to build a substantial lead before umpires called the game.
The Tigers were at bat first but were allowed runs in the first inning.
The Redskins took the plate and got four scores from Amber Gray, Hayden Joyner, Bekah Johnson, and Skylar Lee before they gave up three outs once Gray came back at bat for the second time in the inning, taking a 4-0 lead.
The second inning was just like the first; Redskins outscoring the Tigers 4-0.
Their first run came after Johnson slugged a homerun, bringing Joyner home.
Mackensie Bailey had her turn at the plate, hitting a single that would lead to Megan Beck and Pascal Ellison runs.
Down 8-0, the Tigers would attempt to make a run, scoring four runs in the third inning.
Alayna Young and Caylee Hendrix would score runs after the Redskins defense dropped a fly ball.
Then Karly Garrison followed up with bringing two runners’ home before their run came to a stop after Jaida Bennett got tagged out at first base.
It all went downhill for the Tigers from here, allowing 11 runs at the bottom of the third.
It was just a cycle of the Redskins bringing each other home.
First, Gray stole a base for a run.
Then Johnson hit a double to bring Joyner home.
Ellison hit the ball past third base, allowing Johnson to score.
Lee popped up a flyball that was dropped by the Tigers’ defenders, getting Ellison home.
Presley Carlucci came up to bat and hit another Redskins’ fly that was dropped, passing the scoring cycle to Lee.
Sarah Conner stepped in, hitting a double to get Carlucci to score.
Johnson would have the exclamation point.
She would step up to the plate and bang a grand slam causing the contest to get called moments later.
“Our strength is hitting,” Redskins Head Coach Jason Roundtree said after the game. “We may struggle a little bit sometimes defensively but our pitching and hitting is our strength and today they came out from the first pitch and hit the ball well. They work hard at it, and it makes my job easier.”
The Redskins are now 4-1 (2-0) on the season.
