The Bryan County High golf team has been practicing and gearing up for their 2010 season at their home course at Black Creek Golf Club. They have been working hard and are ready to hit the busy stretch of the golf schedule.
The linksters of Bryan County have only one match in the books thus far. It was not a favorable outcome on the final scorecard for the Redskins as they lost to the Calvary Cavaliers on March 1 by 36 strokes.
There are four boys and three girls on this year’s squad. Brandon Jacobs has earned the right to play in the No.1 spot for the boys and Miranda Johnson will anchor down the No.1 girls spot. Coach Morgan Jersey is back for his second year as golf coach and knows his squads are in for some tough competition.
“My expectation is to compete for a region championship, which will be hard considering we only have four boys this year,” Jersey said. “My girls’ team is complete with three and we hope to chase down a region championship with them. We are up against huge odds with the three private schools and Metter in our region, as these schools have amazing talent in this sport and years of experience that my teams do not have. Nonetheless, we work hard everyday and strive for excellence so that when the time comes, we are prepared.”
Bryan County next is scheduled to swing away against Claxton on Thursday at Black Creek Golf Club, 3:30 p.m. start.
