Rec 12U Wildcats make run at GRPA District 2 title

The Richmond Hill 12U Wildcats advanced to the Dec. 11 GRPA District 2 championship versus Appling County, after defeating Jeff Davis 30-7 and Brantley County 28-14.

Richmond Hill fell 19-14 in the title game, which began well for the Wildcats as they held Appling County the first series and marched down the field scoring a touchdown by tailback Derek Mallard and the offensive line anchored by Quinton Hutchinson, Marcus Murdock, Riley Tindol, Keegan McCarthy, Ryan Gibson, Gage Hill and Tyler Ravita.

The defense then stood strong by holding Appling County again. Appling soon rallied and drove the ball down the field for a touchdown to make the score 6 to 6. The game soon became a defensive struggle as both teams battled it out in the trenches. Appling County soon broke a run down the side in the 3rd quarter to make the score 13-6. The Wildcats rallied late in the fourth quarter with 3 minutes left to score on a run by Derrick Mallard and the offensive line up the middle.

The score was then 13-12 in Appling’s favor but Tyler Ravita kicked the two point conversion to put the Wildcats ahead by a point at 14-13 with two minutes left. The Wildcat defense then dug in trying to stop Appling County’s running attack. Appling County soon hit the outside and scored the go ahead touchdown with one minute left to put the score 19-14 The Wildcats then moved the ball down the field, through the wind and rain, with Austin Miller and Tyler Williams moving the chains all the way to Appling’s 15 when time expired. The 12U Wildcats have never advanced this far in the GRPA District Tournament before and their season record was 6-2 in the SGYFL.
