Preview: Lady Wildcats v. Bradwell Institute
basketball

The Richmond Hill High School Lady Wildcats’ basketball team have things rolling in the right direction after winning three straight games, but they are going to be up against what may be their biggest test of the season so far this afternoon.

Both the Lady Wildcats and the Bradwell Institute Lady Tigers will make the short trip over from Hinesville and Richmond Hill over to Brunswick for their non-region matchup game.

The Lady ‘Cats are up to 7-3 on the year after their three-game win streak, which gives them a .700 win percentage on the year. However, the Lady Tigers are on a win streak of their own, thirteen straight, and are currently undefeated at 13-0, including two wins over the Lowndes High School Lady Vikettes and the Colquitt County High School Lady Packers, both of whom are in the same region as Richmond Hill.

The Lady Tigers are led by a sophomore, Destini McLemore, who is averaging 13 points per game so far on the season, as well as 6 rebounds per game and 3.5 steals per game. Slowing down McLemore and the other Lady Tigers will be key to victory. Senior guard Jamia Ousley is right on her heels, as she is averaging 11.5 points per game herself. She also has 4.4 rebounds per game and the team lead of 3.8 steals per game, so the Lady ‘Cats will have to contend with both of those impressive athletes.

“We have to focus on our game and set the tone,” senior leader Cullen McCormick said. “Limiting our mistakes and taking advantage of theirs will be key. We have to communicate and rely on every player to contribute.”

Due to being on Christmas Break, the Lady ‘Cats were limited in their amount of time they had to practice and prepare but appear to have made the most of it.

“We have had a short time to prepare due to the holidays,” McCormick said. “After watching their film, we focused on our position and who we will be matched up against. We ran several drills to prepare for game-like situations.”

While they are facing an undefeated opponent, McCormick and the rest of the Lady ‘Cats understand the importance of continuing to play their way, and how they have played over their last three games.

“It will be very important to continue to build with region play starting on Friday,” McCormick said. “It would be great for us to have momentum for when we go on the road for the first region game against Valdosta High School.”

The game against Bradwell Institute will be held at Brunswick High School on Tuesday, December 30 for the ‘Hoopin at the High’ tournament. Tip off for the game will be at 2:30pm.
