The Richmond Hill High School Lady Wildcats’ basketball team is currently sitting at 5-3 on the year, with a .625 win percentage through their first eight games, and they are looking to build on that success in game nine tonight.
The Lady ‘Cats will make the short trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina, to take on the Lady Seahawks of Hilton Head Island High School. The Lady Seahawks currently sit at 2-4 on the year, with a .333 winning percentage. After opening with three straight losses, including to the Lady ‘Cats at Richmond Hill High School on their senior night, the Lady Seahawks were able to put together a couple of wins on the year.
With the first game being the largest win on the year for the Lady ‘Cats, with the final score being 53-20, they are looking to again come away with the victory, with this game being on the road. After losing to Glynn Academy at home, the Lady ‘Cats would then rebound at home on Saturday against Statesboro, with a 38-35 victory. Statesboro won the first match at their place on November 22, by a 41-36 score, but The Lady ‘Cats were able to turn things around against them in the second game and come away with the victory.
“It is very important to keep this momentum going after the win against Statesboro,” senior leader Zion Bernard said. “We knew Statesboro would be a challenge to achieve but we kept our goal the same; play our game, and that’s what we have to do against Hilton Head Island tomorrow.”
Since the game against the Lady Blue Devils on Saturday, the Lady Wildcats have been preparing for the Hilton Head Island game, making sure things stay the same as far as their season goals go.
“The objective at practice was to focus and stay consistent,” Bernard said. “Because honestly, the last time we played Hilton Head Island, it did not even feel like we were winning, and it definitely was not our best game.”
It is always hard to beat a team twice, but Bernard feels as though they have prepared for the Lady Seahawks well, and that Hilton Head Island will have to prepare equally as well, if not better, than the Lady ‘Cats have.
“There’s no doubt that they have heart and hustle but they will have to play at our level once again if they want a chance to compete,” Bernard said.
The Lady ‘Cats will travel to Hilton Head Island High School on Tuesday. Tip off for the game will be at 6pm.
