Preview: Lady Wildcats look to build momentum against Brunswick
basketball

The Richmond Hill High School Lady Wildcats’ basketball team have been good travellers so far this season. They opened the year with back-to-back games on the road and hosted one home game before travelling again this Tuesday.

In their first away game, which was in Brunswick against Glynn Academy, they were able to open the season with a 36-33 win. In their game against Statesboro, they came home with a close 41-36 loss.

“We are still learning to play together as a team and cleaning up mistakes and making adjustments,” senior leader and center Cullen McCormick said. “Everything started to click during the second half of the Ware game.”

In the game against Ware County High School, their only home game so far this season, the Lady ‘Cats were able to put away the Lady Gators in that second half as they scored 50 points for the first time on the year, winning that game 52-35.

And as the Lady ‘Cats head back on the road to Brunswick to face Brunswick High School, Richmond Hill hopes to flip the script on the road and come home with a win which would give them two in a row after the home win.

With 5A Brunswick being undefeated so far on the year, as they sit at 2-0, including a win over the region champions in Region 1-6A Lowndes High in their home opener, and Memorial Day School on the road, the Lady ‘Cats have their work cut out for them and have prepared to go into a hostile environment and come away with a win.

“Brunswick will be a good test especially on their court,” McCormick said. “Watching game film on them, or anyone, is a key part of preparation for any game for us. We need to control the ball and rebound. The main thing in any game is that we have to focus on our game and rely on our training and preparation.”

The leading scorer on the year for the Lady Pirates is sophomore Samyya Gilbert, who is averaging 19 points per game so far, including a 22-point outing against Memorial Day. The Lady ‘Cats will need to find a way to slow her down in the matchup.

Tip off for the game will be on Tuesday, December 2, 6pm at Brunswick High School.
