Many boys dream of becoming sports stars. For the North Bryan County Hendrix Park 10U football team, that dream became a reality this season.
They were stars in the eyes of those who live in their community. While it takes a special dynamic to create a successful football program, there is something unique about the make-up of this particular team. Even though the oldest of the boys are only 10, most of them have been playing alongside each other for five years. Over the years, they have worked together and have experienced the ups and downs of winning and losing.
This year, the HP 10U boys, led by Cliff White, Paul Brown, Allen Williams, Nathan Covington and Derek Collins, had an 8-0 regular season. They were the CAA champs, Class C District Champs, and runner-up in the Class C State Championship game. They were the first Hendrix Park football team to ever win a District Championship and go to state.
This season would not have been a success without the hard work and dedication of the boys, the coaches, and their number 1 fans, their parents.
Eight boys from this football team also played in the state championship game this past summer for Hendrix Park baseball and won in the 10U Kid Pitch division. These boys are proof that hard work, perseverance, and commitment pay off in the end.
